Your Move to Edgewood

Whether you are moving in years, or within 90-days, the process is all the same. Through our complimentary consultation, we will identify the process that is right for you and will meet your goals and within a manageable timeline. Together, we work with you to take the process in manageable bites. 

Selling your long-time home will likely be the largest financial transaction of your life, so it is important to develop the necessary trust and rapport with a qualified Seniors Real Estate Specialist ® in the early stages of your transition plan. 

The process varies by client and is based on the volume of contents and extent of downsizing required. However, the Dovetail team will typically pack your desired contents in one to two days, supervise the mover load/unload, and unpack you in one day. It is our suggested approach to load the moving truck the day before your move in and be held overnight at the mover's warehouse. This allows us to begin unpacking your belongings as early in the day as possible. 

The difference between a Senior and Specialty Move Manager and a traditional mover lies in the scope of services, expertise, and approach to the moving process. 

Senior and Specialty Move Manager:

•  Schedule and conduct a complimentary consultation to discuss your moving needs and assess the scope of the move.
•  Review of Estimate and Signing on with Dovetail
•  Receive and review the detailed estimate. Sign the agreement to officially start the process with Dovetail Companies.
•  Sorting and Organizing
•  Begin the sorting and organizing phase. We will use our color-coded sticker system to categorize and label your belongings for an efficient packing process.
•  Packing
•  Our team will carefully pack your items, ensuring everything is secure and organized for the move.
•  Moving
•   Coordinate with movers to transport your belongings to Edgewood Retirement Community. Oversee the moving day to ensure everything goes smoothly.
•  Unpacking
•  Our team will unpack your items, placing them in the designated areas according to the color-coded system. We'll help you settle into your new home comfortably and efficiently.
•  Settling In
•   Post-move services, including: hanging artwork, adjusting small furniture placement, cabinet and closet organization.

We recognize that the equity for your home may or may not be needed to close on your home at Edgewood. During the complimentary consultation, we will discuss your unique situation, including the financial needs to make your transition, your timeline, and your comfort level of living through the listing and selling of your home. Based on your timeline and ability, there are two paths forward:

•  Live through the listing

Once you are approved and your 90-days has been defined, Dovetail will work with Edgewood and you in identifying a move-in date.

Edgewood welcomes new residents Monday - Thursday. Moves take place between 9:00am-4:00pm. Moving trucks must arrive by 11:00 a.m.

As a member of the National Association of Senior and Specialty Move Managers, Dovetail Companies has access to a Nationwide network of Move Managers to  partner with in planning  your transition to Edgewood.

Edgewood has identified pre-approve movers who understand the community guidelines and provide a careful and thoughtful transition of your belongings, while having consideration for all other residents and their safety. 

Dovetail will suggest the most appropriate mover and obtain estimates for your review, and provide liaison throughout the process.

If you are moving to a cottage, you will have a specific street address. 

As soon as your new address and move date is known, you will want to change your address with the    US Post Office by visiting a local branch or online at www.usps.com/manage/forward

Please ensure you have enough medication for a month and request all required deliveries be sent to your new address.

If you have a local pharmacy, you will want to change to one in the area of your new home. Once you do so, you will want to contact your Doctor's office(s) and make sure they have your change of address.

Confirm local pharmacy options.

You will have the opportunity to discuss any customizations, including flooring, painting, etc., required or desired, with Edgewood's marketing team. 

Some units may have treatments installed that remain from a previous resident. If they are in good condition and you find them suitable they may remain; however, any maintenance or changes to them become your responsibility. Dovetail and Edgewood will provide contact information for selected vendors, should you choose to install or replace any window treatments. 

Edgewood exclusively partners with Comcast/Xfinity for internet, cable and phone service. Your dedicated Dovetail Project Manager will work with you in scheduling the service and technician for installation. 

HD cable services and one cable box is included in the Edgewood monthly fee. Cable box is provided upon installation.

During the set-up of your Comcast/Xfinity service, the representative will advise if your number can be maintained. There are certain restrictions based on 911 service, that may prohibit you from keeping your number. In these cases, some clients will have that landline number assigned to a mobile phone.

Edgewood will assign designated storage space. As part of the planning process, your dedicated Project Manager will advise on how much may be held there. Should you require additional offsite storage, your dedicated Project Manager will assist in making recommendations. Any items to be moved to offsite storage will be considered as part of your move timeline. 

The installation of TV wall mounts is done by the maintenance team at Edgewood and can be coordinated through your dedicated Dovetail Project Manager.

Small/medium size weight wall hangings:

The Dovetail team has the tools and hardware to safely hang small/medium-size and weight items such as art, prints and mirrors. 

Who hangs large/heavy weight items? 

To ensure safe installation of large art, mirrors, shelves, etc., the Edgewood maintenance team will hang these items. The Edgewood team is also responsible for hanging curtain rods/hardware.

Should additional services be required, your dedicated Dovetail Project Manager will assist in introducing a third-party installer.

The process begins with a complimentary consultation in the comfort of your home. This allows our team the opportunity to get to know you and your unique needs, providing a detailed estimate following our visit. 

Move Management services are billed at an hourly rate and will be discussed with you at your complimentary consultation.

At Dovetail Companies, we streamline the billing process for your convenience. Edgewood's $3,000 incentive will be deducted from the total cost of our move management services. You will pay the movers directly. Any costs exceeding the $3,000 community gift will be paid by the client. If you choose to sell your home with us, all move management bills will be held until the final sale of the home. This approach simplifies your financial responsibilities, allowing you to focus on your move to Edgewood Retirement Community with no additional upfront cash outlay.
